Why Director ID

Director ID is part of the Government’s program of digital transformation of the Australian Business Register.

What it is

The director ID is a unique 15-digit identifier that will stay with a director for life.

The director ID can be kept the same even if the director moves between roles, businesses or even countries.

It is compulsory for all Australian Directors.

When you need to apply

Clients will need to apply themselves by the following dates.

– Existing directors need to apply by the 30 November 2022.

– Directors appointed between 1 November 2021 and 4 April 2022, need to apply within 28 days of appointment.

– Directors appointed after 5 April 2022, will need to apply before they are appointment.

How to apply

You can apply online, by phone or by paper form.

To apply online, you will need to have your myGovID with a standard or strong identity to login to ABRS (Note: this is different from having a myGov account)

All applications: Documents including your TFN, residential address and at least two documents to verify your identity such as bank account details, ATO notice of assessment, super account details, payment summary etc.

What happens after

Once you have your director ID you will need to provide your ID to relevant record-holders.

You will also be able to view, update and manage your details and activities online.
